Scoring the test.

Use a scoring sheet for each student and simply circle the orthographic features for each word that are spelled according to the features in the first column.

The Basic Spelling Screener checks foundational spelling skills like phonetic spelling and understanding of simple vowel and consonant patterns. The Advanced Spelling Screener looks at complex spelling abilities, including use of affixes and roots, irregular plurals, and complicated vowel and consonant structures.

The Qualitative Spelling Checklist provides a systematic way to analyze student writing samples. This one-page questionnaire helps you analyze students' uncorrected writing and identify their appropriate stages of spelling development.
