Pant Soars to Career-Best Ranking, Bumrah Retains Top Spot in Latest ICC Test Rankings
The ICC Test rankings have been updated, reflecting significant changes in the global cricket hierarchy following a week of compelling performances in both Test and T20I cricket. India's Rishabh Pant and England's Ben Duckett are among the biggest movers, achieving new career-high rankings after their impressive displays in the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley.
Rishabh Pant has surged to seventh place in the ICC Test batting rankings after scoring centuries in both innings at Headingley. He is only the second wicketkeeper in Test history, after Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower in 2001, to achieve this feat. Pant has also become the first Indian wicket-keeper batter to reach 800 rating points in Test history.
Joe Root remains the top-ranked Test batter globally, with his fellow countryman Harry Brook maintaining the second position. India’s Shubman Gill has also made progress, climbing five places to 20th after his century in the first innings.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler, continues to lead the ICC Test bowling rankings after another five-wicket haul at Headingley, reinforcing his dominance in red-ball cricket. England’s Ben Stokes has moved up three places to claim the No. 5 spot in the Test all-rounder rankings—his highest in recent months—after contributing with both bat and ball.
In the T20I rankings, the tri-series in Glasgow, featuring the Netherlands, Nepal, and Scotland, brought about notable changes. Dutch batter Michael Levitt jumped 16 places to 14th after a series of consistent performances. Scotland’s Brandon McMullen also impressed, rising 20 spots to joint 38th.
The ICC rankings serve as a key indicator of individual excellence, where every run and wicket contributes to shaping the evolving landscape of cricket.
