After some particularly difficult years during the coronavirus pandemic, world tourism got fully back up and running again in 2022 with a summer that allowed many travellers to finally return to discover Italy. The portal conducted a study on inbound tourism trends, analysing the trends on search engines and conducting a survey on a sample of 4 thousand international travellers aged between 18 and 65.
"Despite price increases linked to the energy crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, many tourists will choose or continue to choose Italy for their holidays," summarises Emma Lenoci, founder of Vamonos-Vacanze.it.
Foreign tourism in Italy
The survey shows that among European travellers, 78% of the French, 73% of the Germans and 66% of the British have organised or would like to organise a trip to Italy in 2023, placing them on the podium. They are followed by the Dutch with 54%, the Swiss with 48%, Austrians with 43% and Spanish travellers at 35%.
On a non-European level, taking into account those who chose to travel to Europe, US citizens come in first place (60%), followed on the podium by Brazilians (58%) and Chinese tourists (49%). This is followed by Indians with a rate of 45%, South Koreans at 42%, Japanese travellers at 41% and Argentinians with a rate of 35%.
"With its cities of art, but also its sea and uncontaminated nature as well as its breathtaking landscapes, the warm welcome of its inhabitants and its food and wine excellence, Italy confirms itself as the most popular destination for a pleasure trip," explain the analysts of Vamonos-Vacanze.it.

Rome
The Italian capital attracts 70 per cent of the preferences, confirming itself as the most popular Italian destination for foreigners. This is no surprise, given that Rome is one of the world's most famous tourist destinations. Known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and delicious cuisine, it attracts millions of visitors each year.

Florence
With 68 per cent of preferences, Florence takes second place, enchanting foreign tourists with its history and art.One of the most famous landmarks in Florence is the Duomo, a magnificent cathedral that is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture that tourists flock to in their thousands.
