Billy Norman Curbow, 79, of Garrison, Texas, passed away on May 16, 2022, in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was born on July 4, 1942, in Mt. Union, Texas to the late Willis and Ouida (Deloney) Curbow. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Holly Springs Cemetery in Garrison, Texas officiated by Bro. Shak Arrington and Bro. Ben Richardson.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at First Baptist Church Garrison in Garrison, Texas.
Billy Norman Curbow, or “Tudor” for everyone that knew and loved him passed away on May 16, 2022, in the morning hours in Nacogdoches, Texas. He died at the age of 79 just a few short months away from turning 80. He died unexpectedly after having a day filled doing all the things he loved. A good hog hunt in the morning with his friends and his nephew to start and finishing up the day hanging out with family poolside, swimming and grilling, watching sports, listening to music and his favorite thing, playing with all his great nieces and nephews. He was a Christian man who knew and loved reading the Bible, he served as Sunday School teacher for Briley Town Church and was a current member at First Baptist Church in Garrison, Texas.
Tudor was born on July 4, 1942 in Rusk County, Texas in the small community of Mount Union to Willis Dean and Ouida Curbow. His brother Joe tells the story of his birth at the foot of the hill headed towards the Curbow place on the left in the woods with the assistance of a midwife in their family home. He worked on the family farm in Rusk County until the family moved to Nacogdoches County in 1948. He and his brothers and sisters continued to help their father farm in the Holly Springs community and lead a hard-working country life. Tudor was a graduate of Garrison High School and later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Kiniesiology from Stephen F. Austin State University. He served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War sending supplies to troops that were stationed in Vietnam. After graduating from college he was hired as a coach at Troup High School and later at Henderson High School. He began doing some contract landman work in the oil and gas industry and got out of coaching and pursued a 30 year plus career in the field. He loved the history and the traveling from County to County throughout the State of the job and became well known and recognized as being a top-notch landman. He stayed busy working, but always found time to hunt and spend time with his family on his off time. Later in life, after retirement he spent most of his time being the ring leader of the Bellview Hunting Club. He loved gathering at the camp visiting with his friends and going out hog hunting listening to the dogs work. He did some coffee shop visiting and would watch the History Channel and old re-run college football games if he had nothing else going. His true love was to be outside on the go. He attended most of his great nieces and nephews activities and was a huge part of their life, they will miss him so.
Tudor is survived by daughter Dawn Fulton and husband Don. He is also survived by his brothers Jimmy Curbow and wife Marisue, and Joey Curbow and his wife Regina. His two sisters Marie Adkison and Jeannie Butler and husband Gary. Also survived by sister-in-law Stephi Curbow. Survived by nephews Kris Curbow, Gary Adkison, Justin Butler, Kent Curbow, Coady Curbow and Gabe Lindsey. Survived by nieces Melanie Whelan, Keppi Fortenberry, Debbie Hetrick, Suzanne Butler, Cassi Hairgrove and Hetty Lindsey. A whole host of great nieces and nephews who were his joy.
Tudor was preceded in death by his parents Willis Dean Curbow and Ouida Deloney Curbow. He was also preceded in death by his brother Hank Curbow, brother-in-law Hayes Adkison and sister-in-law Betsy Curbow, great nephew Bryson Adkison.
There are many pallbearers which is a true testament to the sort of guy he was.
