The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is poised to launch its own T20 league in the 2025-26 season, joining a growing trend among state associations.
GCA secretary, Anil Patel, has confirmed the decision to Cricbuzz. While the launch is confirmed, the association is still working out key details. This includes identifying a suitable window in the cricketing calendar for the tournament and finalizing the number of participating teams.
These domestic T20 leagues have emerged as crucial scouting grounds for IPL franchises. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra already provide platforms for local players. These tournaments allow emerging talents to gain recognition and potentially secure a spot in the prestigious Indian Premier League. Many of these leagues are scheduled in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
