Plastic wrappers from candy bars and other snacks can be made into new products like bags and home décor. TerraCycle will accept your wrappers for recycling. Or you can place in the trash for proper disposal.
A lot of times, candy wrappers are made with different materials, such as a mix of plastic and aluminum or paper and aluminum. Recycling plants are not able to separate these mixed materials to use them again, so they need to go in the garbage.
Traditionally, candy bar wrappers are made out of a combination of aluminum and plastic. These materials are difficult to recycle because of how hard it is to separate the two materials. Moreover, the plastic is not biodegradable and can take 10-20 years to decompose.
