Ingredients

Making this strawberry-infused simple syrup is a breeze— all you need are three basic ingredients: strawberries, sugar, and water.

Strawberry Simple Syrup for co*cktails and Coffee (2)

Organic Cane Sugar and Water: Simple syrup is a 1:1 ratio of water to sugar that is simmered until dissolved into a syrup.I use organic cane sugar.

Strawberries: Our simple syrup is flavored with strawberries. Fresh is best.

Vanilla: Optional but I use vanilla paste for additional flavor. I recommend a pinch of salt as well to help balance the flavors.

See recipe card for quantities.

Helpful Equipment

This strawberry simple syrup comes together very easily with a pan, spatula, and a fine mesh strainer.

The strainer serves the purpose of separating the strawberries, preventing the need to put pressure on them, which could otherwise result in the simple syrup turning cloudy.

Substitutions & Variations

Strawberries: You can replace the strawberries with raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries.

Ginger: Simmering fresh ginger would be great if you're serving this in a co*cktail.

Lemon: A small squeeze of lemon can add some brightness.

Herbs: Depending on what you are using it for but basil or mint would be delicious paired with strawberries.

Serving Ideas

While my homemade strawberry syrup was initially crafted to complement this Strawberry Latte, its versatility extends beyond coffee and co*cktails.

Try it in the following:

Add to coffee: Stir some strawberry syrup into your morning coffee or latte to make a strawberries and cream inspired drink. This is my favorite way to use it!

Flavoring for water: Add it to sparkling water to make a strawberry soda.

Add to co*cktails: Use it in your favorite co*cktails for a fruity twist. It works well in drinks like strawberry margaritas, mojitos, or a vodka soda.

Iced tea and lemonade: Add it to iced tea or lemonade to flavor it!

Drizzle over sweets: This would be delicious drizzled over baked goods, pancakes, or waffles.

Add it to oats: Add it to overnight oats, chia pudding, or oatmeal to add a strawberry flavor and add sweetness.

Storage

Store: Allow the strawberry simple syrup to cool completely then store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Freeze: You can freeze this strawberry syrup for up to two months. Allow it to thaw in the fridge or add it directly to the stovetop and melt.

Tips & Tricks

Enhance the flavor of the syrup by incorporating lemon. All you'd need is a tiny squeeze of fresh lemon juice once it has been strained to add an additional burst of flavor.

I use this syrup mostly for coffees so I omit this but if you're adding this to a co*cktail, it would be a great addition!

Make it thicker by simmering longer or adding a cornstarch slurry- it will create a thicker syrup that's great for pouring over pancakes or waffles.

Use fresh strawberries. Frozen strawberries will work but make sure to thaw them so you don't introduce to much water. Fresh strawberries are best.

Avoid using a spoon to press or mash the strawberries. Allow the syrup to naturally strain through the mesh to maintain clarity and prevent cloudiness.
