Ah, yes. The old “traveling butt fart that arrives at your vagin*.” It's not really a vagin* fart, it's just one that, well, travels up that way. A time-honored tradition that we who have labias so rarely talk about. You know how it goes. You fart out the normal route, usually just a little one, and all of a sudden the air bubble that just left your butt slides forward, traveling over your labia and out the top. Whoa! How’d that get there?
A dedicated group of Redditors are airing out the secrets of the “sisterhood of the traveling fart” so every time one slips out the front, the rest of us no longer have to wonder if it’s only happening to us.
The post that started it all is from user Labia Farts, posted in the lady-centric TwoXChromosomes thread. Labia Farts pondered “Do you ever fart and the fart goes past your vagin* and your labia moves? Or is that just me?” Rest assured, Labia Farts, it’s not just you. Other front-farters have so far left 655 comments, sharing stories and describing the feelings of their most treasured “varts.”
Broadly did the valiant work of digging up some other names for the front fart, including “exiting through the gift shop,” “cooter pooter,” and “retweeting.” And no, queef is not another name for this. A queef is when air that has become trapped in your vagin* escapes, often during or after sex. The cooter pooter is flatulence (gas that is a result of digestion) that comes from your butt and slides over your labia before gracing the nose.
Redditors have braved this topic before, too — a conversation Debby Herbenick of the Kinsey Institute told Broadly is probably a good one to have.
"The body is cool/interesting/funny and the more we all accept our bodies and their sights and sounds and smells, and yes, fart movements too, the more relaxed we will be," Herbenick said.
So, you and your "vagin* fart" can rest easy knowing you're totally normal.
