The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will reopen the waitlist for its Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program from Monday, June 3, 2024, at 12:00 AM through Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 11:59 PM.To apply, visiton.nyc.gov/section8-application. Questions? Visiton.nyc.gov/sec8-app-faq

If you previously submitted a Section 8 housing application when the waitlist was open, you may log on to the Self-Service Portal to check the status of the application and update your information.

Beware of Voucher Scams NYCHA does not charge or request a fee in connection with applying for Section 8 or processing a rental for Section 8. If you receive a request for payment from anyone posing as NYCHA personnel, report it to the NYC Department of Investigation’s NYCHA Inspector General at ig@nycha.nyc.gov or 212-306-3355 or the HUD Office of Inspector General at 1-800-347-3735 or www.hudoig.gov/hotline.

Housing Discrimination Is Illegal

It is ILLEGAL for your landlord to refuse your voucher or public rental assistance.

Things You Should Know When Completing a Section 8 Application

If you are on an existing waitlist, you may be asked to update your preliminary application or submit a complete application. Don't risk your chances for receiving federally assisted housing by providing false, incomplete, or inaccurate information on your application forms.

Denial of Assistance

If you are denied assistance, you will be notified by NYCHA and will be given the opportunity to appeal the reason.
