Halloween-related spending is expected to reach a record $12.2 billion across the U.S. this year, according to an annual survey from the National Retail Federation.
About $3.6 billion of that $12.2 billion sum is spent on Halloween candy alone, per NRF. That’s a lot of sweet treats, and perhaps a few trips to the dentist, but hey – you might as well celebrate the spooky season while you can.
But of all the Halloween candies and treats to enjoy, which is your favorite?
Perhaps you’re a chocoholic and prefer a Hershey’s kiss, maybe you prefer fruity-flavored candy such as Skittles or Starburst, or maybe there’s nothing that satisfies your sweet tooth more than a peanut butter and chocolate Reese’s.

CandyStore.com, an online bulk retail and wholesale candy company, released its rankings of the most popular Halloween candies nationwide, as well as by individual state. The rankings utilized data from 16 years’ worth of sales data on CandyStore.com from 2007 to 2022, measuring each candy by how many pounds of each candy was sold during that time frame.
The most popular Halloween candy in Ohio is Blow Pops with 171,607 pounds sold from 2007 to 2022, according to CandyStore.com. M&M’s, meanwhile, took the silver medal in terms of Ohio’s favorite candies with 159,547 pounds sold, and Starburst ranked third with 149,207 pounds sold.
About 172 million Americans celebrate Halloween, and 96% of those who celebrate will purchase candy for the holiday, spending about $31.93 on average, according to the report.
