Venus Point
Venus Point is so called because it was from here that Captain James Cook measured the transit of the planet Venus in 1769. The beach there is an ideal place to spend the day. Located in Mahina in the north of the island, the soft black, volcanic sand turns the turquoise sea a deep emerald. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling, the coral reef is quite close and is a superb spot with plenty of tropical fish to observe.

Practical information
Close to the beaches in Tahiti, you’ll find everything you need to make your visit comfortable, enjoyable and memorable. Here are a few tips to help you make your most of your day at the beach:
The Beaches of Tahiti
Tahiti has the biggest population in The Islands of Tahiti and the beaches can get quite crowded. It’s better to go early to avoid the crowds. Don’t worry, it’s still hot and sunny, even first thing in the morning.
Interact with the local population
The local population is delighted to share the beach. Don’t hesitate to say the occasional ‘ia ora na (hello) or māuruuru (thanks), they’ll appreciate the effort!
Bring your equipment
As well as a swimming costume and towel, don’t forget your eco-friendly sun cream, a hat and a water bottle. The sun gets very hot in The Islands of Tahiti, so be careful not to expose yourself to it for too long.
Respect the beach and Polynesian nature
Respect the environment and take your litter with you when you leave the beach. Please dispose of it properly.
Follow instructions
Some beaches have sacred sites on or next to them. Please treat these sites with respect.
Outfit
Unlike other parts of the world, swimming costumes are only worn on the beach, not elsewhere.
