Some cities that outranked Tijuana for homicide last year include

Baghdad, Iraq
Bangui, Central African Republic
Benghazi, Libya
Caracas, Venezuela
Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Juba, South Sudan
Kandahar, Afghanistan
Kismayo, Somalia
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Another problem is TJ's violence being overstated. It isn't the most violent city in the world.

Note how the press are deliberately avoiding the fact that people are running scared from Port-au-Prince and find TJ very comfortable and safe?

Quite.

Good call on cities being classified by municipal borders not urban which is how you're meant to do it.

Rosarito and Tj are recognized as the same urban area by all credible sources and the idea they're separate is laughable [the excuse that Rosarito has retiree enclaves whilst TJ doesn't is bizarre and has nothing to do with anything], much in the same way that Chicago's urban area is recognized as being 9 million.

A big problem with the internet is clumsy people appointing themselves as experts.

I'm a White American from Chicago. I lived 1 block from Zona Norte on Calle 2da and constitution for 8 years. From 2009-2017. I never once had witnessed a murder or heard gun shots.

John, you felt unsafe, but no one hurt you, right? So don't complain. You are going to be safe in Tijuana if you use common sense such as not showing wealth, going out in the night or being in connection with drug cartels, which is the main reason why Tijuana has more than 2000 murders every year. I also don't recommend going to south, east or southeast part of the city (there's nothing to see there anyways). The safest parts of city are the downtown and Playas de Tijuana.

Ask me if you need anything related to Baja California travel.

This is a comment to Buck who has an issue with Rosarito being called "Nearby cities" to Tijuana and said “when really it's the same one”-
Being from San Diego, I know both cities very well. Rosarito is a tourist town with an overwhelming number of retired American’s living there, and Tijuana simply isn’t-
Would you consider a suburb of Chicago the same as Chicago? Is Brooklyn the same as upstate new York?
